KAUFLAND

The Zukunftsfonds Heilbronn (ZFHN), owned by one of Germany’s wealthiest individuals, Dieter Schwarz, is planning to invest in Israeli technologies. Founded in 2006, ZFHN has invested in nearly 30 companies so far, eight of which have been sold. Schwarz’s Schwarz Gruppe, which owns Lidl and Kaufland, is the fourth-largest retailer in the world and the second-largest in Europe.
ZFHN aims to leverage Israel’s advanced technology ecosystem by investing in areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, energy systems, and biotechnology. The fund typically invests between $500,000 and several million dollars in seed and pre-seed companies, with the goal of helping these companies expand into the European market. The fund is also planning to create investment strategies and collaborations to link Israeli ventures with Germany.

ALDI NORD

Aldi Nord is a German discount supermarket chain that split into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd in 1960 by two brothers. Aldi Nord has partnerships with the Israeli computer retail technology company Trigo for digital transformations, leading to its boycott. There are rumors of a possible merger with Aldi Süd, but this has not been confirmed.

MIGROS

Migros is a Switzerland-based retail company. An Israeli start-up company has submitted the first application for cultivated meat in Europe in Switzerland. Aleph Farms announced that the product is unlikely to be available in stores before 2030. The company filed the application in collaboration with Migros and aims to sell the world s first cultivated beef steaks under the Aleph Cuts brand. If the authorities approve the application, it would be a first in Europe. The product is expected to be available initially in high-end gastronomy.

REWE

Rewe, one of Germany's leading supermarket chains, has partnered with Israeli technology company Trigo to offer checkout-free shopping experiences. REWE Group participated in Trigo's USD 100 million investment round in October 2022, supporting the company's ambitions to expand the distribution of autonomous supermarkets in Europe and the US and expand into new regions.

NETTO

Netto Marken-Discount is a discount supermarket chain founded in Germany in 1980 that offers affordable products. As part of the cooperation between Trigo and Netto Marken-Discount, two cashierless stores were opened in Germany. The first store was opened in Munich in December 2021. The second store was opened in Regensburg and is the largest cashierless supermarket in Europe with an area of around 800 square meters
